Being a woman, of color, not original from this land, struggled her way to where she is now, but still attached with her history, indicates her presence here is no more than 50%. Willingly or not, objectively or not. It's just how it is. Do you agree with that? In what ways you do and you don't? Do we have to use that identity to gain attention? Are our work valuable because of that positionality 50% of Presence is a multimedia theater performance discussing those questions...

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Yma Ziyun Ma (b. 1999, China) is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of movement, performance art, digital media, and text. Her practice bridges dialogues between untranslatable, often exploring themes of in-betweenness, liminality, and different dimensions of movement. Grounded in everyday aesthetics and the art of conversation, Yma's creative process prioritizes collaboration with the BIPOC immigrant community. Her projects are rooted in collective memories of diaspora, and reflect her belief in the transformative power of embodying unspeakable experiences.
